Accessibility at Great North Swim

We are blessed to have a dedicated team of safety kayakers on the water, who form part of our wider water safety team with our lifeguards and safety boats. These floating islands of encouragement and enthusiasm are there primarily for your safety, but also to help you enjoy your day and succeed in your swim. With over 50 kayakers, they are never far away, and are always happy to engage in a mid-swim chat to help calm your nerves, or become a temporary pontoon while you adjust your googles or gather your nerves.

For any swimmers who would like particularly close attention paid to them, perhaps due to a disabillity or medical condition, we can issue a puple hat at registration. We can then relay any relevant information to our safety teams, so they are on hand and informed when needed.
